The Yogas of Dream and Sleep

Dream yoga is an ancient spiritual practice enabling the yogi to remain aware during the state of dreaming and using lucid dreams as a vehicle for self-realization.

Sleep yoga is the practice of remaining aware during dreamless sleep, entering a luminous awareness known as clear light. Dream and sleep yoga feature in many of the tantric Tibetan Buddhist lineages such as Dzogchen, Kagyu and Bon, and form an important role in the shamanic healing traditions of the Maya and many other indigenous cultures.

By becoming aware that we are dreaming whilst we are dreaming, we can open the potential to shift the dream experience into a transformative spiritual practice, where we can liberate deeply held traumas, overcome fears, purify karmic traces and patterns, and cut through the illusory nature of the mind. By maintaining awareness in dreamless sleep, we can rest in clear light and unlock the deep restorative and medicinal qualities of this state.

This workshop will outline the preliminary practices to be carried out in the day and prior to sleep – including purification breathing, generation of compassion, visualization meditations on the chakras and setting the intention for the night. The session will conclude with a deep relaxation and preparation for sleep.
