What if the most profound inner journey available to you required nothing more than your own breath?
No substances. No risk of a bad trip. No lasting disorientation. Just 90 minutes of conscious, connected breathing — and a depth of inner experience that most people never imagined their own body was capable of producing.
Altered States is a psychedelic breathwork experience guided by Natalie — a weekly Wednesday evening practice that uses conscious connected breathing to induce the kind of profound, non-ordinary states of consciousness that were once thought accessible only through plant medicine or years of deep meditation. Research from Brighton and Sussex Medical School and others now confirms what practitioners have known for decades: that the breath, used in this specific and intentional way, reliably produces states of deep emotional release, mystical-type experience, and genuine inner transformation — safely, legally, and entirely on your own terms.
What happens in the brain
The science behind psychedelic breathwork is as fascinating as the experience itself.
Fast, deep, rhythmic breathing changes the blood gases in the body — dropping carbon dioxide levels and reducing blood flow to the prefrontal cortex, the brain’s analytical centre, by over 40%. The result is a quieting of conscious, critical thought that research has directly compared to the effects of psilocybin — without any of the unpredictability or duration of a chemical substance.
Simultaneously, studies show significant changes in the brain regions linked to memory and emotion — the hippocampus and amygdala — while the insula, which tracks body sense and the felt sense of selfhood, becomes less active. This is the neurological basis of what practitioners describe as ego dissolution: the loosening of the fixed sense of self that allows for feelings of unity, bliss, oneness, and the kind of insight that the habitual, defended mind rarely allows through.
The result is a state that is genuinely, measurably non-ordinary — and that you can return from at any moment simply by slowing the breath.
What the experience offers
Emotional Release
Stored trauma, subconscious blocks, and intense emotions that have been held in the body surface and clear in the safety of a held, guided space. This is not the slow, effortful release of talk therapy. It is rapid, somatic, and often startling in its completeness.
Self-Discovery & Insight
The quieting of the analytical mind creates conditions for a quality of self-knowledge and fresh perspective on entrenched thought patterns that the ordinary waking state rarely produces. Many people describe receiving clarity on situations, relationships, and beliefs that had seemed immovable.
Nervous System Regulation
Beneath the more dramatic experiences, conscious connected breathwork consistently produces deep nervous system regulation — a return to parasympathetic rest that reduces anxiety, lifts depression, and builds a genuine, lasting capacity to manage stress and emotion.
Mindfulness & Focus
Regular practice strengthens the capacity for present-moment awareness, focus, and the kind of mental clarity that most people spend years trying to cultivate through meditation.
Safety & Control
Unlike ingesting a psychoactive substance, you remain in complete control throughout. The breath is the key — and you hold it. Slowing or stopping the breathing pattern returns you to an ordinary state immediately, making this one of the safest ways available to access these profound inner experiences.
The practice
Each Wednesday evening, Natalie guides a 90-minute session from 7 to 8:30pm. The session opens with grounding and arrival — settling the nervous system and preparing the body for what’s ahead. The breathwork itself is set to a carefully curated soundscape designed to take you deep, move emotion, and support the journey as it unfolds. The session closes with integration — time to absorb, return, and anchor what has been experienced before stepping back into the evening.
Each session is complete in itself. And each session, when practised as part of a regular monthly ritual, builds on the last — gradually deepening the capacity for release, expanding the range of what becomes accessible, and building the kind of cumulative inner transformation that a single session can only begin.
What you’ll leave with:
Trapped energy, limiting beliefs, and stored emotion released from the body
A nervous system genuinely regulated and reset
Insight and clarity on patterns, beliefs, and situations that ordinary thinking doesn’t shift
Enhanced mindfulness, focus, and emotional resilience
The particular aliveness that arrives when the thinking mind steps aside and something deeper takes over
A practice worth returning to — every week, every month, for the rest of your life
